Feature-Centric Approaches to Case-Base Maintenance

چکیده

Flexible case-base maintenance (FCBM) and adaptation-guided feature deletion (AGFD) extend case-base maintenance (CBM) research. FBCM examines superficial properties of cases and their features such as the size of a case or the rarity of a feature. Then it deletes either entire cases, or components of cases, measuring competence by the number of problems solved and measuring size by the number of case-feature pairs. AGFD harnesses the adaptation knowledge of a system in order to improve FCBM. It prioritizes cases for maintenance based on the recoverability of their deleted components. Experiments evaluated FCBM in three domains: film recommendations, Congressional bill sponsorship, and travel agency packages, and AGFD in a path-finding domain. The proposed research plan is to continue to explore and improve approaches to CBM and their relationship with each of the other phases of the CBR cycle.

Flexible Feature Deletion: Compacting Case Bases by Selectively Compressing Case Contents

Extensive research in case-base maintenance has studied methods for achieving compact, competent case bases. This work has examined how to achieve good solution performance while limiting the number of cases retained, using approaches such as competence-based case deletion. Two fundamental assumptions of such approaches have been (1) that cases are approximately the same size and (2) that the o...

UMass at TREC WEB 2014: Entity Query Feature Expansion using Knowledge Base Links

Entity linking tools predict links between entity mentions in text and knowledge base entries. In this work we leverage the rich semantic knowledge available through these links to understand relevance of documents for a query. We focus on the ad hoc task on the category A subset and demonstrate the benefit of entity-centric approaches even for non-entity queries like “dark chocolate health ben...

Integrated Maintenance with Case Factories for Distributed Case-Based Reasoning Systems

Maintenance approaches for Case-Based Reasoning (CBR) systems focus on a single CBR system and mainly on a single knowledge container like the case base, the adaptation knowledge or the similarity. There are a few approaches that deal with shifting knowledge between knowledge containers, especially between the case base and adaptation knowledge. These approaches have been successfully applied t...

Towards Lifetime Maintenance of Case Base Indexes for Continual Case Based Reasoning

Abst rac t . One of the key areas of case based reasoning is how to maintain the domain knowledge in the face of a changing environment. During case retrieval, a key process of CBR, feature-value pairs attached to the cases are used to rank the cases for the user. Different feature-value pairs may have different importance measures in this process, often represented by feature weights attached ...

Are Features Equally Representative? A Feature-Centric Recommendation

Typically a user prefers an item (e.g., a movie) because she likes certain features of the item (e.g., director, genre, producer). This observation motivates us to consider a featurecentric recommendation approach to item recommendation: instead of directly predicting the rating on items, we predict the rating on the features of items, and use such ratings to derive the rating on an item. This ...
